Whanganui region wind assessment
The Manawatū-Whanganui region is in a strong position to assist New Zealand meet the national energy goal of 100% renewable generation by 2030 as the region has good wind potential, rising industrial energy demand, and robust transmission infrastructure.


Wind development has the potential to enhance energy resilience, reduce emissions, and provide local economic uplift through investment, employment, and opportunities, which are all positive outcomes not only for the region but for New Zealand.
Wind development within the Whanganui AOI specifically presents strong potential, but site selection must contend with a range of constraints, which include a combination of physical, social, cultural, environmental, and infrastructure-related factors.
