After 30 years in Australia, Ray Rahui and Bonnie Moir moved back to New Zealand, choosing Whanganui as their new home, as well as a place to run a business.
They have purchased the River City Golf Course and Driving Range with the intention that serious golfers, as well as people interested in learning about the sport, will use the course.
The course is now open during the week from 7.00am for early risers and will cater for people who want to have a hit after work (just in time to practice for the Masters Games!)
“We are renovating the driving range and we’ve purchased new driving range mats, upgraded the machinery and revamped the lighting, including floodlights so the course can be used at night,” says Ray.
Since purchasing the business Ray has already seen workplace teams and groups of friends play socially after work. Eventually he hopes a café and small eatery will be run from the course.
The golf course is situated in the Gonville Domain, which is owned by Whanganui District Council as recreational land for anyone to enjoy.
Ray encourages anyone who wants to have a go to come to the golf course.
“It’s a public golf course – anyone can use it.”
