Options for Finding and Promoting Whanganui Events

Want to find or promote Whanganui events?

User-friendly and easily searchable online options like Eventfinda and Facebook should be among the first places to look for event information, says Paul Chaplow, Whanganui & Partners’ Strategic Lead – Destination Marketing.

“When you are looking at options for finding and promoting events, Eventfinda and Facebook are free and it’s simple to set up user accounts. A further advantage is that the Whanganui i-Site Visitor Information Centre is also a ticketing agent for Eventfinda,” he says.

As a national site, Eventfina provides an opportunity for Whanganui events to receive New Zealand-wide exposure, encouraging visitors from outside the district, says Mr Chaplow.
Current Whanganui listings include everything from school galas and yoga classes to expos and touring acts at the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Nationally, the site has more than 900,000 members and lists almost 350,000 events.

“More people are also setting up Facebook events, which are searchable through your Facebook page. Facebook has recently introduced an app, Facebook Local, which makes finding Whanganui events even easier.

“There are also numerous local sources of information about events, for those who prefer not to search online, says Mr Chaplow, “from listings in local media to the printed monthly AWA event guide.”

The What’s On website, formerly established and managed by Whanganui & Partners, has been discontinued now that Eventfinda and Facebook event listings have become more popular.
Major Whanganui events and events supported by Whanganui & Partners will continue to be promoted on the Visit Whanganui website at www.visitwhanganui.nz and via social media.

“Whanganui & Partners will continue to monitor event listing options to see if other suitable online alternatives arise,” says Mr Chaplow.
